Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Doubles Down on VA Comments, Calls Low Quality Care a ‘Myth’

At a town hall in NYC over the weekend, America Rising trackers recorded Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doubling down on her comments that she believes it’s a “myth” that the VA system is broken. Saying “you might have heard Fox News talking about” her previous comments:

Just last week Ocasio-Cortez noted her opposition to reforming the VA saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Read Ocasio-Cortez’s statement:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “We also participated and spoke and fielded questions at the National Nurses United town hall around health care and the VA. You might have heard Fox News talking about it. Because there’s a myth that all VAs everywhere are broken. Because the idea that if we can starve our public systems. We are seeing this with [sic] if we can starve them of budgets and make sure that they can’t do their job, then we can say the whole system should be thrown away. I’m not going to back down from protecting the VA. I’m not going to back down from saying we should fund it. Because it’s not about throwing away the entire system, it’s about hiring the 48,000 vacancies that are necessary to give our veterans the medical care that they deserve. [clapping] That also goes to how we imagine and talk about our district. New York 14, our community, contains and is home to one of the largest concentrations of veterans in New York City. So when we talk about our veterans communities we also need to be talking about Bronx and Queens vets too, and so it was an extremely animated and emotional town hall and it was one I was very proud of.”
