America Rising’s Daily Democratic Civil War: Senate And House Leadership In Chaos

In the face of Election Day’s catastrophic results for the Senate and House Democratic caucuses, both Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are facing a struggle to stay in their leadership posts. Chuck Schumer thought he’d have an easy path to take over for the reprobate Harry Reid. Yet Schumer’s close ties to Wall Street have caused an uproar from pro-Bernie Sanders groups. Liberal website The Intercept went as far as calling Schumer “the worst possible Democratic Leader at the worst possible time.”

According to The Hill, a pro-Bernie group called “People for Bernie Sanders,” is calling on Democrats to move away from Schumer, calling his appointment “tone deaf”:

“A group that supports Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is making an eleventh-hour plea to Senate Democrats, arguing Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is the wrong choice to lead them in 2017. ‘The Democratic Party is at a crossroads, and it could implode,’ says Charles Lenchner, co-Founder of the People for Bernie Sanders said in a statement. ‘Senator Schumer has not demonstrated the proper leadership here. Supporting him as Minority Leader is tone deaf.’”

That statement came just a day after seventeen protesters were arrested for staging a sit-in in Schumer’s Senate office. Specifically, their protest was aimed against “Wall Street Democrats” like Schumer, that Sanders had fought against in the Democratic primary.

At the same time, Nancy Pelosi’s position has only deteriorated since yesterday. House Democratic Leadership elections have been delayed for two weeks and the more liberal members are growing restless with Pelosi’s continued leadership:

“‘Everything’s not good. Business as usual is not going to work,’ said Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., among those who pushed for the delayed leadership vote.”

As the below headlines show too, the “deep divisions” that House Democrats face will continue no matter who leads them. Yet certainly Pelosi’s continued leadership will only exacerbate the Democrats’ problems:

San Francisco Chronicle: “Will Pelosi take the fall for Democratic Party failures?”

Financial Times: “Pelosi faces challenge as Democrats wrestle with deep divisions”

Youngstown Vindicator: “Rep. Tim Ryan says someone like him should lead Dems in House”
