Another Keystone-Backing Union Supports Clinton
Today, North America’s Building Trades endorsed Hillary Clinton. They join the Laborers’ International Union of North America as unions that strongly supported the Keystone XL pipeline, who then backed Clinton.
Hillary Clinton both opposed the Keystone XL pipeline, and also failed to approve it during her tenure as Secretary of State. LiUNA called opposition to Keystone “politics at its worst,” and the Building Trades also had strong words in support of the pipeline. In fact, their endorsement of Hillary Clinton is directly contradicted by their statement in support of the Keystone pipeline. In their Keystone statement they strongly called on President Obama to approve Keystone to help working families:
“‘On behalf of the tens of thousands of skilled crafted professionals that see this pipeline project as a lifeline to support their families,’ said McGarvey, ‘I urge the president to sign this bill.'”
Yet in their endorsement of Clinton they claimed “we trust that Secretary Clinton will always do what’s best for America’s working families.” So which one is it? Is it a lifeline for families or not? Maybe their endorsement should have said Secretary Clinton will always do what’s best for America’s working families unless Tom Steyer and a more valued Democrat special interest group wants it more.
