Bernie Blast: Clinton Too Cozy With Health Care, Pharmaceutical Industries
Two days before Christmas, it appears the gloves are beginning to come off in the Democratic primary. In an email sent to supporters this afternoon, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) blasted Secretary Clinton’s hypocritical rhetoric in which she attacks the health care and pharmaceutical industries while simultaneously taking “more money from the health care industry than did the top 3 Republicans – combined.”
Secretary Clinton, on the other hand, has received millions of dollars from the health care and pharmaceutical industries, a number that is sure to rise as time goes on. Since 1998, there are no industries that have spent more money to influence legislators than these two. Billions of dollars! An absolutely obscene amount of money. And in this election cycle alone, Secretary Clinton has raised more money from the health care industry than did the top 3 Republicans — combined.
In a rare week night Democratic debate in October, Clinton falsely said she was proud of the enemies she had made in the pharmaceutical industry. This assertion ignores the fact that she and her husband have accepted $1.6M – $2.6M in speeches to pharmaceutical trade organizations or companies. America Rising PAC released a comprehensive listing of the Clinton-Pharmaceutical industry ties here.
FEC data shows Clinton’s presidential campaign took in another $75,000 from the health care and pharmaceutical industries in the third quarter of 2015 alone.
