Biden Official Claims “Border is Closed” as Crisis Continues

On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas joined Kamala Harris in denying and ignoring the ongoing crisis at the southern border. Mayorkas told Congress that the “border is closed,” despite the administration reporting more than 178,000 apprehensions in April. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol also report releasing more than 60,000 immigrants released into the country’s interior since February.

Townhall.com reporter Julio Rosas has been reporting from the border, capturing large groups of immigrants on video as they cross the Rio Grande.

Republicans grilled Mayorkas over the administration’s loose immigration policies that are fueling the surge and claims that the border was secure.

Fox News: Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., said that there was an “invasion” at the border that was being fueled by the Biden administration.
“It looks like you rolled out a big welcome mat that says ‘send us your kids’ and that is criminal,” he said. “Because as long as they know if they get to our border we’re going to take them and turn them into American citizens and let them roam free in our country, people desperate in those countries are going to continue to take that risk.”

National Review: Republicans demanded answers from Mayorkas about the relaxed interior enforcement his department has been directing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to do, including restricting agents’ ability to arrest and deport the majority of immigrants.

Biden’s policies aren’t just fueling an influx of border crossings, though. They are also propelling an exodus of border patrol agents. And among the remaining agents there is widespread frustration, with some dubbing themselves the “U.S. Welcome Patrol.”

Bottom Line: The Biden-Harris administration’s failed immigration agenda created an ongoing crisis at the southern border that officials refuse to even acknowledge.
