Bill De Blasio’s Tortured Answer On Clinton Wall Street Speeches
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday morning, ostensibly to tout Hillary Clinton’s Super Tuesday victories. But the socialist mayor who likes to talk tough on Wall Street spent most of the interview trying and failing to spin Clinton’s refusal to release transcripts of her paid speeches to Wall Street executives.
After decrying the “excesses of Wall Street” and the need for reform, De Blasio got backed into a corner about Clinton’s speeches and could only say that “what she’s saying now” (a.k.a. campaign trail talking points) is “much more important” than what she said behind closed doors, free of any accountability to voters.
De Blasio’s local paper, The New York Times, has called on Clinton to release the transcripts, as have numerous open government advocates.
