Border Crossings Shatter Single-Year Record

For the fourth consecutive month, Customs and Border Patrol has arrested more than 200,000 migrants attempting to illegally enter the United States. Two-thirds of the migrants were single adults traveling without children or family, and 80,000 were released into the interior of the country.

Fox News: The U.S. Customs and Border Protection released its June 2022 Monthly Operational Report showing record levels of border crossings are continuing, including a record-setting number of terrorist sightings and an increased number of unaccompanied children and illegal drugs found at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In the report, the CBP said there were more than 207,416 encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border for the month of June. While the overall number of border interactions is down from May’s all-time high of 239,000, it is the fourth month in a row of more than 200,000 encounters.

There have now been 1.75 million apprehensions made at the southern border, setting a new single-year record with three months left in fiscal year 2022. Additionally, the number of suspected terrorists caught has reached an unprecedented new record. Fifty-six individuals have been flagged by the Terrorist Screening Database, “which is nearly double the 30 in the previous four years combined.”

Republicans have slammed the Biden-Harris administration for failing to secure the border and repealing effective policies.

New York Post: Lawmakers have blamed the Biden administration’s policies for the increase in border-crossers since the president took office in January 2021, after Biden pledged during the 2020 election campaign to reverse Donald Trump’s more restrictive and controversial policies. The Department of Homeland Security has since scrapped most construction on Trump’s ballyhooed border wall, reversed the “Remain in Mexico” policy for asylum-seekers, attempted to end Title 42, and changed policy so that having entered the US illegally is not cause for deportation.

The changes have not gone unnoticed — even by the migrants themselves.

Bottom Line: Democrats created a humanitarian and national security crisis by refusing to secure the southern border.
