Can Brad Schneider Unify His Base After Divisive Primary?

Last night, former Congressman Brad Schneider barely won the Democratic primary for Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, and his struggle to unify his own base forebodes poorly on his chances in November.

In his contested primary, Schneider showed he is deeply out of touch with his own party on the issues of Iran, ObamaCare, and gun control. The divisions were clear last night, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported, “The candidates, who spent the primary season sniping at each other, did not speak to each other Tuesday evening, both of their campaigns confirmed.”

The Sun-Times editorial board said, “Whatever enthusiasm we had for Schneider’s candidacy waned.” Now he faces a steep uphill climb to win back the excitement of Democratic voters.
