Chaos at the Southern Border as Illegal Crossings Surge to 22-Year High

The situation at the southern border continues to deteriorate further into chaos. In March, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol encountered more than 220,000 illegal immigrants — a 22-year high and the third-highest number ever. Officials are warning that when the Biden-Harris administration revokes Title 42, the crisis could worsen as thousands of illegal immigrants and unknown amounts of deadly drugs flow across the southern border.

Fox News: The number of migrants encountered at the southern border surged past the 220,000 mark in March, marking the highest numbers seen under President Biden – numbers that are likely to further fuel bipartisan fears of unprecedented migrant traffic in the months ahead when the Biden administration lifts the Title 42 public health order. . .

Both Democrats and Republicans, as well as officials within the administration, have predicted that there will be an additional increase in numbers once the Title 42 order lifts — as migrants will be drawn to the border knowing they are more likely to be released into the U.S. The administration has reportedly been planning for scenarios of up to 18,000 migrants a day.

Law enforcement officers and federal officials are warning about the dangers — and deadly consequences — of Joe Biden’s immigration policies. On Friday, a Texas National Guard soldier drowned in the Rio Grande attempting to save illegal immigrants smuggling narcotics into the United States. More than 70 sheriffs wrote to lawmakers demanding they take action to keep Title 42 in place, and border patrol agents are warning that morale is at an “all-time low” as illegal immigrants overwhelm officials.

Republicans — including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy — slammed the Biden-Harris administration’s mismanagement of the crisis and went to Eagle Pass, Texas to speak with agents and assess the situation on the ground.

CNN: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is set to lead a group of fellow Republican lawmakers to the southern border in Texas on Monday, amid debate over the Biden administration’s decision to end a Trump-era pandemic restriction on the US-Mexico border.

“House Republicans stand with our brave Border Patrol agents on the front lines of this crisis, and we demand that the Biden administration reverse their decision to end Title 42 and fully enforce the immigration and border security laws of our nation,” McCarthy’s office said Saturday.

Bottom Line: Joe Biden’s immigration policies created a volatile and dangerous situation at the southern border. Officials are already overwhelmed — and the situation could get even worse if the Biden Administration follows through on their plan to revoke Title 42.
