Chuck Schumer Can’t Convince Top Democrats to Run for Senate

Chuck Schumer is having a tough go at convincing people to run for U.S. Senate as a Democrat. This morning, Stacey Abrams joined the ever-growing list of people who have rebuffed Chuck’s recruiting efforts.

Politico: “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) has recruited her intensely to run against Perdue...Her decision to pass on the Senate is ablow to Democrats, who considered her their top recruit in Georgia. Schumer met with Abrams at least three times and was in touch more often, and enlisted allies to help Abrams work through the contours of the job.”

The recruiting flop adds to a list of failed pursuits including Steve Bullock, John Hickenlooper, Beto O’Rourke, Tom Vilsack and Josh Stein. Bullock, Hickenlooper, and O’Rourke all appear to be staking their futures on a longshot bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination rather than attempting to join Schumer in the Senate.
