Clinton Calls ISIS “A Phenomenon” In Univision Interview
During an exclusive sit-down interview with Univision, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the terrorist group ISIS “a phenomenon.”
Americans have heard this kind of language used to describe ISIS before. In an interview President Obama gave in January of 2014, he called them a “JV team”:
The New Yorker’s David Remnick: “You know where this is going, though. Even in the period that you’ve been on vacation in the last couple of weeks, in Iraq, in Syria, of course, in Africa, al-Qaeda is resurgent.”
President Obama: “Yes, but, David, I think the analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a JV team puts on Lakers uniforms, that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant. …”
Here’s a link to the full transcript of Clinton’s remarks, and an excerpt below:
Univision’s Maria Elena Salinas: Did you underestimate the power of ISIS?
Hillary Clinton: You know, ISIS is a phenomenon and ISIS came out of the terrible turmoil in Syria. I personally had advocated that we do more to help the rebels against Assad because I worried that terrorists would take and occupy territory, and that has come to pass, not only with ISIS but other Al-Qaeda affiliates and terrorist networks.
