Clinton Awkwardly Fumbles Crime Bill Question During Debate

During Sunday night’s Democratic debate, Secretary Clinton was asked why African Americans should trust her after her support for the 1994 Crime Bill, which many credit for the mass incarceration of thousands of African Americans.

Clinton dodged rather than answer the question.

Perhaps that’s because as First Lady, Clinton championed policies that contributed to a sharp increase in incarceration rates. Specifically, Clinton advocated for “three strikes and you’re out policies,” and lobbied for her husband’s 1994 crime bill, which put more cops on the street and imposed tougher sentencing guidelines.
