Clinton Joined By 2014 Loser Alison Lundergan Grimes In Kentucky
Today, Hillary Clinton made her not-so-triumphant return to Kentucky. During her appearance in Ashland, Clinton was joined by a familiar face, Alison Lundergan Grimes.
The last time Clinton and Grimes were together in Kentucky, Grimes was three days away from getting trounced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell by a devastating 16 points.
Clinton’s recent admission that she’s not a natural politician was on full display on that November afternoon, when the former Secretary of State seemed to predict a good election day for Grimes:
“Clinton, who has traveled extensively campaigning for Democrats as they hustle to hold off what increasingly looks like a coming Republican majority in the Senate, told the crowd that she was back in the Bluegrass State to ‘help build momentum for the last three days.’ ‘There is no place with more enthusiasm than Kentucky for Alison,’ Clinton said.”
While Grimes didn’t get a federal job out of the 2014 elections, she did get a subpoena from a federal grand jury:
“A federal grand jury in Lexington has subpoenaed records of Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and her father Jerry Lundergan in an investigation that relates to the finances of her political campaigns in 2014 and 2015. David Guarnieri, an attorney for Grimes, confirmed Monday that she received the subpoena last week.”
Under those circumstances, many politicians would distance themselves from such a controversial family. Say what you will about the Clintons, but they’ve never shrunk from continuing to associate with ethically-challenged political allies.
