Cortez Masto’s Groundhog Day
As Americans waited to see if Punxsutawney Phil would see his shadow, Nevada senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto must have felt like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, waking up to the same poor press coverage and unsustainable fundraising “burn rate” over and over.
Last month Cortez Masto’s question dodging and “D-list speaking abilities” drew critical media attention, and an early February interview indicated little progress, with a KTVN reporter charging that Cortez Masto “has been difficult” to reach:
Also out this week is another fundraising report showing Cortez Masto’s campaign is burning money quicker than they’re raising it. Cortez Masto reported raising roughly $1.3 million in the last three months of 2015, but spending more than $825,000 at the same time. That means she spent more than 63 percent of what she raised – even worse than last quarter’s burn rate of 60 percent.
Cortez Masto’s repeated dodges, gaffes, and gratuitous spending proves that Sen. Harry Reid continues to be right about one thing: Cortez Masto’s flagging campaign needs more work.
