Dem Senator Calls For Party To End Its Race To The Left
Today in a speech to the group “New Democracy,” Delaware Democratic Senator Chris Coons called for his party to end its “race to the left:”
“If we as a Democratic Party are going to move from a minority at every level that is dedicated to resistance, to a majority that is capable of governing, we have got to move from grievance to optimism,” Coons said in a speech in Washington. “And we’ve got to abandon a politics of anxiety that is characterized by wild-eyed proposals and instead deliver ideas and practical solutions.”
Coons called abolishing ICE, guaranteed jobs, free health care, and condemning energy companies “pie in the sky policies” that only appeal to the extremes of the Democratic Party. However, other Democrats, particularly 2020 hopefuls, have fully embraced these extreme agenda items and continue to pull the party towards the progressive left wing.
