Democrat lawmakers from southern border states are slamming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their border crisis failures, according to a new report from the Washington Examiner.

Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), along with Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX), have publicly criticized the Biden administration for their mishandling of the crisis at the border and misrepresentation about the number of unaccompanied minors being kept in border patrol facilities.

Washington Examiner: “‘It’s clear that not enough is being done,’ Sinema said. ‘Arizona is bearing the brunt of this crisis because of the federal government’s failure to address immigration issues over the last three decades.’”

Washington Examiner: “‘What I’m waiting for is the administration to take bold action to actually address these concerns,’ Sinema told radio station KTAR News on Thursday.”

Washington Examiner: “‘I’ve been down to the border, Douglas and Yuma. I’ve talked to sheriffs and mayors and the two sector chiefs and their leadership teams. We’ve got a problem,’ Kelly told reporters on Thursday. ‘The federal government has failed on this issue for decades now. Washington has to do better, and Arizonans are fed up. So, I’m just going to call it like I see it.’”

Washington Examiner: “‘All they’re doing is they’re moving kids from one tent to the other tent and saying, ‘Oh, they’re not in the Border Patrol (custody),’ but they’re right next door,’ Cuellar told Border Report. ‘They’re just next door in HHS.’”

Washington Examiner: “‘To say that we have everything under control, you know. I’m supportive of President Biden. I’m a supporter of his, but we’re not paying attention to the border’s communities,’ [said Cuellar.] ‘… And it’s not under control. I can tell you that.’”

A group of 13 Democrat lawmakers also sent a letter to House leadership last week pushing back against President Biden’s capital gains tax hike that would negatively impact farmers.

The Wall Street Journal: “‘I’m all in support of the Jeff Bezoses of the world paying their darn fair share because they can afford it and we need it,’ Rep. Cindy Axne (D., Iowa), the letter’s lead author, said Thursday. ‘But we can’t create an unintended outcome of losing family farms.’”

The Wall Street Journal: “‘I’m laying down the marker, and I’ve got 13 colleagues who say we agree,’ Ms. Axne said. ‘And many of us come from really difficult seats.'”

This is not the first time Democrats have voiced opposition against Joe Biden’s tax plans. Numerous lawmakers have indicated they will hold up the Biden administration’s tax-and-spend infrastructure packages if they do not repeal the current $10,000 SALT cap.

Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ): “No SALT, no dice. We need those fixes too.”

Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY): “I’m making it very clear. No SALT, no deal.”

Representative Tom Malinkowski (D-NJ): “I can’t vote for a bill that raises our taxes without dealing with SALT.”

Bottom line: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ policies are drawing flack from inside the Democratic Party as members whose constituents would be most impacted are speaking up. Democrats can ill afford division within its own ranks given how small of a margin they hold in the House and Senate.
