Democrats Say They “Saved the Economy” — Voters Disagree

Prices for essentials like energy, housing and food are surging, real wages are shrinking and voters overwhelmingly believe the country is on the wrong track — but one congressional Democrat was caught on camera saying Democrats “single-handedly saved the economy.”

Voters overwhelmingly disagree with Connecticut Democrat Jahana Hayes’ assessment of the economy. Joe Biden’s disapproval rating on the economy is 58 percent and Republicans hold a 20-point lead on the issue. In battleground areas, many voters are blaming the failing economic policies of the Biden-Harris administration and congressional Democrats.

One voter in suburban Phoenix who spoke to the Wall Street Journal wondered why inflation is “happening with this administration and not the last one” and said she is leaning towards voting Republican in November’s midterms. Many of her neighbors felt the same way.

Wall Street Journal: Interviews with residents and local business owners in the neighborhood on Scottsdale’s eastern edge suggest any patience for higher inflation could reach a breaking point by November if prices keep rising or stay high. . .

“I blame the Biden administration,” said Vanessa Weeks, a 54-year-old interior designer who has lived in the neighborhood for more than three years. “There is no other way to look at it.”

Ms. Weeks, an infrequent voter who considers herself an independent, said she’s cooking at home much more than usual because of restaurant-price increases. . .She blames Mr. Biden for rising gas prices and for offering too much Covid assistance, which she thinks has boosted wages and inflation. “People don’t want to work,” she said. . .

Ms. Perilstein, a self-described libertarian who mostly backs Democrats, said she has also been disappointed with the president after voting for him. “I don’t think Biden is doing a good job, but I also think Congress is dysfunctional,” she said.

Bottom Line: Voters are not buying Democrats’ spin. Everyday, Americans see and feel the effects of skyrocketing inflation fueled by Democrats’ reckless spending.
