Despite Pledge to Voters, Mark Kelly Hasn’t Stopped Taking Money from Corporate Lobbyists

Arizona Senate candidate Mark Kelly has joined the bandwagon of the far-left and made a no corporate PAC money pledge. However, as the Arizona Republic explains, Mark Kelly’s connection to corporate money is more complicated:

“Kelly has headlined a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., hosted by lobbyists whose corporate clients include Wal-Mart, Exxon, Comcast and the pharmaceutical industry lobby, according to its website.”

“And even now, he continues to earn money on the speakers circuit from some groups aligned with business interests.”

“While campaigning, Kelly points to the influence corporations and moneyed interests have on issues like health care and climate change. At the same time, he is faced with having to square the underlying spirit of his pledge with his activities outside the campaign.”

As The Intercept noted, Mark Kelly “has made at least 19 paid appearances at corporate events across the country,” which has put him at odds with the progressive wing of the party.

Mark Kelly’s hypocrisy on corporate money is becoming more apparent as the campaign progresses.
