Does NY Democrat Really Want Dark Money To “Fly Away On Her Zephyr”?

Democratic candidate Zephyr Teachout, who recently launched a bid for New York’s 19th Congressional District, has already proven to be a trailblazer in political posturing. Teachout, who is considered a “money in politics” crusader and recently ran the pro-campaign finance reform group MAYDAY PAC, has been indecisive on whether or not she’d accept super PAC help in her race.

Teachout said she was “interested” in striking a deal with her opponents to ask outside groups to stay out of the NY-19 race, but hasn’t given any concrete indications that she would do so. Teachout went a bit further by saying she “might” disavow super PAC spending on her behalf, but that her campaign is “still working out the details of which kinds of outside help she’ll accept.”

National and regional Democrats are already worried about Teachout’s extreme liberal views and her carpetbagging vulnerabilities, which tanked their chances of winning the seat in 2014. Add in Teachout’s political opportunism and apparent lack of convictions, and Democrats have the recipe for an even bigger electoral disaster.
