With Ethics Scandal Brewing In NYC, America Rising Formally Requests De Blasio Records

As questions are raised about a controversial offer by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to secure city permits for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign in exchange for Sanders agreeing to the presidential debate date favored by Hillary Clinton, America Rising PAC is requesting records to determine whether de Blasio inappropriately used his office to benefit Clinton.

A nonpartisan ethics watchdog is accusing de Blasio of violating ethics laws by sending this tweet:

And the Washington Free Beacon reports:

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, an ethics watchdog group, says that de Blasio strong-armed Sanders into agreeing to debate on Clinton’s terms by baiting the Vermont senator with permits for a rally in the city later this month. The group argues that de Blasio’s actions advanced the interests of Clinton, whom the mayor endorsed last October…

…Matthew Whitaker, a former U.S. attorney who serves as executive director for FACT, told the Free Beacon that de Blasio improperly used his city position to push Sanders to agree to a debate on Clinton’s terms.

The report goes on to note that Sanders had already secured the necessary permits for his planned April 14th rally, indicating that de Blasio’s offer of assistance would only be useful if Sanders were to move his event to accommodate Clinton.

To determine whether any city resources were inappropriately used to benefit a political campaign, America Rising PAC has filed Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests to the Mayor’s Office and the Parks Department for communications from de Blasio and senior staff members about securing permits for Sanders.
