FALSE: Duckworth Claims To Have Passed “Many Pieces Of Legislation”
In her first post-primary press conference, Tammy Duckworth was already playing fast and loose with the facts.
In response to a question about whether she would be able to get anything done if she won but Democrats failed to win the senate, Duckworth said that she’s currently in the minority party (accurate) and has “managed to pass many pieces of legislation” (inaccurate).
A look at Duckworth’s record in Congress shows otherwise.
Duckworth has never been the primary sponsor of a piece of legislation that was passed into law. She’s never even had a standalone bill passed out of committee.
Her legislative record is so weak that an Inside Gov study published in August ranked Duckworth as the 27th least effective Member of Congress, with an effectiveness score of 0%.
There appears to be some degree of political motivation behind the comparatively few bills Duckworth has sponsored. She sponsored just six bills from January 2013 to March 2015, the month she announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate. Then, Duckworth’s productivity suddenly increased – in an apparent effort to appear more than 0% effective to Illinois voters, she’s introduced a dozen bills in the months since her campaign announcement. Few have gone anywhere.
