FBI Investigating Detroit Mayor’s Demolition Program

Like Hillary Clinton, DNC Convention speaker and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan knows a thing or two about being under investigation by the FBI. In May it was announced that the FBI was joining an investigation into Mayor Duggan’s blight plan:

“The FBI has joined a federal investigation into Detroit’s demolition program, according to a source familiar with the investigation. The FBI is the second federal investigative agency looking into the demolition program — an ambitious effort designed by Mayor Mike Duggan to tackle Detroit’s massive blight problem.”

Duggan’s blight elimination program had been under fire in Detroit because the cost to tear down a house under Duggan had been much higher than it was under his predecessor:

“Duggan’s blight elimination program has been under fire for rising demolition costs since last fall. The average cost to tear down a blighted home went from $8,500 to $10,000 under former Mayor Dave Bing to an average at one point of $16,400 under Duggan.”

Additionally, Detroit mayors have a recent history of corruption. The fact that Clinton is comfortable having Mayor Duggan address the convention shows how little regard she has for criminal investigations.
