FLASHBACK: Ed Rendell: Establishment Dems Backing Sestak’s Opponent Actually Helps Sestak
In 2010, former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell said that Joe Sestak’s independent streak was a net benefit in his campaign for the U.S. Senate. Back then, Rendell backed Sestak’s opponent, Arlen Specter, in a brutal primary that Sestak eventually won.
The result: the Democrat establishment that had given its full backing to Specter had to hold their collective noses and support Sestak.
History is repeating itself in Pennsylvania, as establishment Democrats are coalescing behind the fledgling campaign of Katie McGinty—Governor Tom Wolf’s former chief of staff. In her first week as a candidate, McGinty has received the establishment backing of EMILY’s List and the United Steelworkers union.
And just today, Rendell himself demonstrated how little he’s learned—he’s been named McGinty’s campaign chairman:

Perhaps Rendell forgot about all those great attributes he had to ascribe to Sestak when Pennsylvania voters showed they had no interest in the establishment’s hand-picked candidate?
