#TBT: 3X Russ Feingold Called Obama A “Great President”
President Obama endorsed failed former senator Russ Feingold on Thursday. Despite Feingold having a lot more in common policy-wise with Birkenstock-wearing Bernie Sanders acolytes on east coast liberal alerts campuses than with Wisconsin voters, President Obama’s endorsement makes perfect sense.
As he prepares to leave behind a deeply flawed legacy, from failing Obamacare co-ops to crises raging around the world, it’s natural that President Obama would want to throw his weight behind one of the only fellow politicians who has consistently predicted he’d go down in the history books as one of America’s great presidents.
Feingold to CNN’s Piers Morgan in February 2012:
FEINGOLD: I agree with the president over 95 percent of the time. I think he’s doing a very good job and I think he’s going to be, by the end of his second term, one of our greatest presidents.
And to CBS “This Morning” later that month:
FEINGOLD: He has a vision for the world and I don’t think the label means anything. I think he’s already a good President. I think he’s going to be a great President by the time it’s over.
Feingold doesn’t just think Obama is a great president in general – he also predicted he would go down in the history books for his masterful grasp of foreign policy to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer:
FEINGOLD: The President actually has a real understanding of the international situation, and in my view President Obama is doing an excellent job on the international front, and If he’s reelected – as I suspect he will be – I think he could end up being one of our great presidents from the point of view of our international policies.
Apparently Feingold hadn’t read much about Libya, Syria, the failed “Russia Reset,” and the rise of ISIS.
