Hakeem Jeffries Fully Supports Allowing Noncitizens to Vote

High-ranking House Democrat Hakeem Jeffries is as liberal as they come, and his recent support for giving hundreds of thousands of noncitizens the right to vote proves it. Last month, Jeffries backed a bill passed by the New York City Council giving 800,000 noncitizens the right to vote in municipal elections.

Despite Jeffries’ unyielding support of the City Council’s bill, Mayor Bill De Blasio, at the time, stated that he had “mixed feelings” about such a bill because of the legal questions surrounding allowing noncitizens voting rights. 

In another blow, The Atlantic reached out to prominent New York Democrats such as AOC and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, along with other leading members of the Democratic party about the bill, but they’ve been radio silent.
