Kamala Harris’ Failed Attempts To Rewrite Her Prosecutorial Background

Kamala Harris‘ record as a “progressive prosecutor” is coming under intense scrutiny. On issue after issue, her claims of progressive actions as DA and AG in California are being debunked.

Today the Associated Press examined her record – or rather lack thereof – on bail reform. Advocates for reform in CA said Harris was “absent on the issue” and cited her office’s efforts to defend “the cash bail system in a pair of federal court cases.” Her change in tune only came when she was elected to the Senate:

“But when she had a chance to take a bold stand on these issues as a top law enforcement officer, Harris often opted for a careful approach or defended the status quo. Observers of her career note some of her key positions, like her opposition to cash bail, came at politically opportune moments, after public views had shifted on race, inequality and bias in the justice system.”

“For her entire career she used some of the highest money bail amounts to keep people in jail cells and saddle poor families with financial debt and as soon as she had no influence on that issue practically, she announces she has a different view on it.” – Alec Karakatsanis, an attorney who has brought several legal challenges to California’s bail system

Harris continues to rewrite her prosecutorial background:

Kamala Harris was not a “progressive prosecutor.” As each element of her “top cop” prosecutorial background is uncovered, how will progressive activists respond?
