Hillary Clinton’s Support For Rahm Emanuel At Odds With 82% Of Chicago
Hillary Clinton continues to stand by her longtime political ally, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, even as he remains embroiled in an ongoing and serious scandal at home. Asked if she still had confidence in Mayor Emanuel, Clinton recently said:
“‘I do,’ Clinton told reporters Friday evening in Fort Dodge, Iowa. ‘He loves Chicago and I’m confident that he’s going to do everything he can to get to the bottom of these issues and take whatever measures are necessary to remedy them.'”
Clinton’s “confidence” in her friend, Mayor Emanuel, is something not shared by the overwhelming majority of Chicagoans. A new poll by the Illinois Observer showed that only 18% of Chicago approves of the job Mayor Emanuel is doing.
As David Ormsby of Illinois Observer said, the poor approval ratings, “goes right to the heart of his credibility. They don’t believe what the man says.”
Chicago elected officials have also lost faith in Emanuel. As Ald. Milly Santiago said, “for him to say he hasn’t seen the video until now, I question his leadership.”
The vast majority of Chicagoans don’t believe Mayor Emanuel has the credibility and leadership to do his job as mayor. This is the man Hillary Clinton still has confidence in, and it’s yet another example of how out of touch Hillary Clinton really is.
