House Democratic Leader Tells Former Florida Congressman To Stay Out Of Primary

At a New Year’s fundraiser for Democratic candidate Annette Taddeo (FL-26), Democratic House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer told the attendees that he doesn’t want his “friend” former Rep. Joe Garcia to run for his old seat because he thinks Taddeo has the best chance to win. Hoyer also told the attendees to tell local Democrat Andrew Korge to stay out of the race.

Both Korge and Garcia are looking into running in the 26th district, and Garcia was recently in Washington D.C. where he talked with people about running.

While Democratic leaders are struggling to recruit viable candidates across the country, they still find time to push their heavy-handed agenda in local politics. The Democratic voters in Florida’s 26th District deserve the opportunity to support the candidate who suits them best, not the Washington establishment.

REP. STENY HOYER: “I want you to tell Chris [Hoyer misidentifies Chris Korge for his son, Andrew Korge] and I want you to tell Joe [Garcia], look this is not about personalities this is about our best opportunity. Annette Taddeo I tell you is our best opportunity to win a seat in South Florida, that’s why I told you I contributed. Joe Garcia is my friend. I’m not down here against Joe Garcia, but I will tell you I don’t want him to run because I want to maximize our opportunity.”
