IL Democrat Tammy Duckworth Flip Flops On Benghazi Committee, Clinton Emails
Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), the DSCC’s handpicked senate candidate in Illinois, flip flopped on her past support for the Benghazi Committee – which she sits on – and the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server. In a statement released today, Duckworth echoed the Democrats’ talking points du jour, criticizing the Committee.
Unfortunately for Duckworth, she had a different take – the opposite one, in fact – in a March press conference when she touted her place on the Benghazi Committee and promised to “hold [Clinton] accountable,” stating point-blank that some of Clinton’s emails were sure to be classified and calling on Clinton to testify before the Committee:
DUCKWORTH: Well I don’t know who’s running for President in 2016, if Hillary Clinton runs, she’s from Illinois, she’d be welcome to come to Illinois to campaign and she is a friend, but I’m going to hold her accountable. I actually sit on the oversight and government reform committee in Congress. I think that all of her official emails in the State Department should be released, not just to the members of committee, like myself, but to all of the American public. Transparency is the best policy. All of her official emails should be released to the American people, they should be able to read them all. There are going to be some that are classified and those that are classified, then show those to a bipartisan group of members of Congress, we all have the clearance to look at them, but I’ve looked at this, you know I’m on the oversight committee, I’m on the Benghazi committee, I’m on Armed Services, I think transparency is better and she needs to – and she needs to come before the Benghazi committee and testify as well.
Compare that with her statement today:
It confirms that the majority has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars simply to score political points against the frontrunner for the Democratic Presidential nomination, Secretary Clinton. And far worse, the Majority Leader’s partisan disclosure breaks the promise we made to the victims’ families to make sure a tragedy of this magnitude never happens again. The decent thing to do is to wrap up the Committee’s work as soon as possible.
