Jacky Rosen’s Reid Problem Grows

Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has never figured out how to deal with her Harry Reid problem. Last year, during her run for Congress, Rosen was faced with stories detailing the fact that she was Reid’s handpicked candidate in the race. Rosen’s Reid problem got so bad that she was even forced to deny that she was Reid’s “puppet”:

“When Rosen is mentioned, it’s often in connection with Reid’s name. Rosen said she was ‘really honored’ that Reid came and spoke to her, but she rejected the notion that she’s ‘a puppet.’”

Now, after less than a year in Congress, Rosen is already looking for a new job and running for the Senate. Once again though, she’ll have to battle the disadvantage that comes with being so close to Reid. Reid himself didn’t help matters when earlier this week, in an interview with The Nevada Independent, he called himself “a huge backer of Jacky Rosen,” adding that he “helped her come out of the private sector into the public sector”:

“I am, as everyone knows, a huge backer of Jacky Rosen. I helped her come out of the private sector into the public sector. She’s been stunningly good. In fact, Chuck Schumer told me, and he’s known in political circles as having an astute mind politically, that she remind him of the movie The Natural with Robert Redford. She is a natural, she is so good. I think she’s going to be a good statewide candidate.”

All the work Rosen has done trying to distance herself from Reid was just undone with a single answer from the notoriously gaffe-prone former Senate Minority Leader. This is an issue that isn’t going away for the untested Rosen.
