Joe Biden Now Opposes Hyde Amendment Prohibiting Taxpayer-funded Abortions

Joe Biden has joined the bandwagon of the far-left and reversed his previous support of the Hyde Amendment which “prohibits federal funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is endangered.” Biden has taken a hard left turn on the issue of abortion now that he wants to appease the radical base of the Democratic party.

Early in his career Biden actually voted to allow individual states to overturn Roe v. Wade. His past support of the Hyde Amendment was highlighted by National Review:

“I will continue to abide by the same principle that has guided me throughout my 21 years in the Senate: those of us who are opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them,” Biden wrote to a constituent in 1994. “As you may know, I have consistently — on no fewer than 50 occasions — voted against federal funding of abortions.”

“I’ve stuck to my middle-of-the-road position on abortion for more than 30 years,” Biden wrote in his 2007 book Promises to Keep. “I still vote against partial birth abortion and federal funding.”

This is the latest reversal in a long string of indirect apologies and revisionist history from Biden, as his record is now out-of-step with the ever leftward shifting base of the Democratic party.
