Joe Biden Stacks Transition Team With Lobbyists Despite Previously Calling them “Corrosive”

During Joe Biden’s failed 2008 presidential campaign, he railed against the “corrosive” influence of special interest groups and lobbyists in politics. According to a new report by The Wall Street Journal, at least 40 people serving on his transition team today are current or former registered lobbyists.

WSJ: “The Journal cross-referenced congressional lobbying databases against the 500-plus people who were announced this week as members of the Biden transition’s agency review teams. Those teams are tasked with implementing the president-elect’s policy agenda, working with career government staffers to get up to speed on key issues and eventually embedding in agencies ahead of the inauguration.”

This flip-flop shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Lawyers and lobbyists were one of the top sectors contributing to Biden’s Senate campaigns – giving more than $13.8 million. When it comes to his latest presidential campaign, Biden hosted fundraisers at the home of David Cohen, who runs the lobbying operation at Comcast, as well as the home of the managing partner of Wiley Rein, a firm with lobbying clients.

Bottom line: Joe Biden is revealing his blatant hypocrisy by stacking his administration with current and former lobbyists despite previously excoriating them for having “corrosive” influence on politics.
