Laid-Off Keystone XL Pipeline Worker Says Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Package Continues to Leave Oil and Gas Workers Behind

A former Keystone XL Pipeline worker, who was laid off from his job after President Biden revoked the pipeline’s permit, said Biden’s new infrastructure package that is expected to create new clean energy jobs would do very little for middle class Americans like him.

“‘None of that fits my plan. I’m a welder. That’s what I’ve been doing. And him wanting to rebuild the middle class in cutting welding jobs and cutting oil and gas. The oil and gas is pretty much the heart of the middle class and the upper class. The oil and gas is what drives the United States and the world. And he cuts everything out from us,’ said [Lynn Allen], a welder for more than 30 years.” – Fox News

On his first day in office, President Biden signed an executive order cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, which left thousands of pipeline workers stranded with nowhere to turn.

Lynn Allen, whose pipeline job was taken away from him after the project was shut down in January, said he is still searching for a new job months later. Allen said he talks to people every day and “there’s nothing out there.”

“’You think about it every minute of every day,’ Allen said, adding his family is ‘on hold’ while he awaits a new job.” – Fox News

Another retired Keystone pipeline worker, Guy Williams, said that many of his former employees are also out of jobs.

“‘There’s quite a few people. There’s a lot of welders, pipeline people that live in my general area and a lot of young guys. And I know some that used to work for me when I was working in the trades. But they don’t have anywhere to go,’ Williams said.” – Fox News

In his first formal press conference, President Joe Biden said he initially ran for president to rebuild the middle class, but many Americans whose livelihoods have been stripped away because of his policies say they can’t get new jobs in Joe Biden’s America.

“‘I spent my whole life learning this craft and this skill and it’s not as easy as somebody might think or people might think to just start all over at 45 years old,’ [Jason Jernigan], with Local 798, said. ‘I guess I could possibly get a job as a greeter at Walmart, I don’t know.’” – Fox News

Bottom line: Joe Biden’s plan to transition oil and gas workers to clean energy jobs is an unrealistic talking point that provides no actual relief for those who have been left behind by his radical policies.
