Merkley Clearly Does Not Think Clinton Should Be President

When Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) over Hillary Clinton, he refrained from any overt criticism of Hillary Clinton. Yet in a number of passages, the slights toward Clinton were unmistakable.

According to Merkley, while Clinton is very cautious, Sanders offered bold solutions:

“Bernie Sanders is boldly and fiercely addressing the biggest challenges facing our country.

For Merkley, while Clinton has long been a favorite of special interests, Sanders is independent:

“And as economic power has become more concentrated, so too has political power. Special interests, aided by their political and judicial allies, have exercised an ever-tighter grip on our political system.”

Finally Merkley contrasted Clinton’s use of Priorities USA and big money fundraisers, with Sanders average contribution was only $27:

“Bernie is a determined leader in taking on the concentration of campaign cash from the mega-wealthy that is corrupting the vision of opportunity embedded in our Constitution.”
