Michelle Nunn Won’t Admit She’s A Democrat, But She’ll Take Liberal $$$
Today, Georgia Senate-candidate Michelle Nunn is in Washington D.C. attending a fundraiser co-hosted by former liberal presidential candidate Howard Dean at a lobbying firm located on K Street.
Not only is Nunn attending a fundraiser hosted by the Democrats’ liberal wing of the party, she also announced a joint fundraising committee with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee entitled “Nunn Senate Victory.”
Nunn’s backing from Washington D.C. liberals runs contrary to how she’s presented herself as an “independent minded candidate.” For example, in a July 2013 interview with WSB-TV, Nunn avoided answering a question about overcoming her Democratic Party label in the Georgia U.S. Senate race.
WSB-TV’s LORI GEARY: “I noticed in your release you never mentioned the word Democrat. But you will have a D on your name on the ballot. How do you at this point overcome a D next to your name on the ballot in a state like Georgia?” MICHELLE NUNN: “Well I think I’m going to be running as an independent minded candidate who is focused on issues and ideas. I’m going to be talking to people what I think is important like the deficit, like jobs, like insuring our children have the opportunities they deserve and need. I’m not so much concerned about labels as I am actually talking about what I think makes a difference for people, which is getting things done, rolling up our sleeves, and working together and that’s the spirit I’m going to bring to this campaign and the Senate.”
During the same interview, Nunn refused to even say if she was a Blue Dog Democrat.
WSB-TV’s LORI GEARY: “Are you a Blue Dog Democrat?” MICHELLE NUNN: “I’m not going to be labeled, I’m an independent-minded candidate.”
