Mike Madigan Rejects Investigation Into Longtime Friend

Days after WBEZ reported that a close ally of Mike Madigan rewarded a state employee for remaining silent over a rape, Madigan may be engaging in a cover-up by rejecting a request for an investigation to be conducted.

NBC Chicago: “Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan on Thursday rejected a request for a House investigation into a 2012 email that surfaced earlier in the week, in which a close associate of Madigan advocated for a state employee by saying he “kept his mouth shut” on an unspecified rape.”

Despite issuing a short statement calling on “those with any information to come forward,” Madigan’s decision to reject an investigation raises serious questions about his involvement. After all, McClain is Madigan’s longtime friend – and one of the key figures in a federal probe into the culture of crime and corruption which has plagued Illinois for decades.

As state lawmakers from both parties call for an investigation, this cover-up exemplifies Madigan’s flagrant abuse of power. Similar to the federal probe that is reportedly targeted Madigan himself, a comprehensive and independent investigation into this issue should be conducted.
