More Trouble For Ami Bera Ahead Of Endorsement Vote

Ahead of this weekend’s state convention, where California Democrat Ami Bera’s endorsement is in jeopardy, labor unions now allege that he flip flopped on his much criticized trade votes.

Robert Longer, a union activist, said that Bera stated his opposition to granting President Obama trade promotion authority in a 2014 candidate questionnaire:

In a 2014 candidate questionnaire from the United Steelworkers, Bera stated his opposition to giving “fast track” authority to the president to negotiate trade deals, which allows Congress only a yes-or-no vote on the final agreement.

The unions’ disappointment with Bera’s “broken promise” raises serious doubts about whether he will be able to hold together his divided coalition through November.
