New Emails Reveal Clinton Foundation’s Influence At State Department

New emails released by Judicial Watch from Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State paint a troubling picture. They show that for Clinton Foundation donors, there was very little that Clinton’s State Department would not do for them. In many of these emails, Clinton campaign Vice Chairwoman Huma Abedin, then State Department deputy chief of staff, acted as a conduit for Clinton Foundation requests to the State Department.

In one instance Doug Band, Bill Clinton’s longtime aide, asked Abedin to set up a call between Gilbert Chagoury, a million dollar Clinton Foundation donor, and the former U.S. ambassador to Lebanon because of Chagoury’s interest in Lebanon. Abedin was quick to help:

“Ms. Abedin responded with the name of the State Department official, Jeff Feltman, who had served as a U.S. ambassador to Lebanon before becoming U.S. assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs. ‘I’m sure he knows him,’ she wrote. ‘I’ll talk to Jeff.’ Fifteen minutes later, Mr. Band shot back: ‘Better if you call him. Now preferable. This is very important.’”

In another exchange between Band and Abedin, Band asked Abedin to arrange for a State Department job for a Clinton Foundation-connected person:

“In a separate email exchange, Mr. Band passed along to Ms. Abedin and Ms. Mills a request for ‘a favor’ from an associate who had recently been on a Clinton Foundation trip to Haiti and was apparently seeking work at the State Department… In one undeleted section, however, Mr. Band wrote that it was ‘important to take care of’ the associate’s request. A short time later, Ms. Abedin wrote back to say: ‘We all have him on our radar. Personnel has been sending him options.’”

This exchanges clearly establish a culture of corruption that permeated the highest levels of the State Department. Even prominent Clinton supporter Jennifer Granholm saw there was something suspicious about the many overlapping layers of Clintonworld, admitting that Band’s dual role with Bill Clinton and the Foundation was a “blurring of the lines”:

As a Clinton Foundation donor there was apparently a smorgasbord of opportunities at the State Department unavailable to ordinary Americans. The Clintons have long operated by their own rules. These new emails provide yet more evidence for why the American people do not trust Clinton.
