Newsom Endorsement Shaded The Truth On Clinton’s Same-Sex Marriage Record

California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom is an ambitious politician, and thus more than willing to bend the truth to help out other politicians like Hillary Clinton. Before the California primary in June, Newsom endorsed Clinton, citing her “record” on same-sex marriage back in 2004:

“Only one major figure in the Dem party was willing to be photographed with me: Hillary Clinton. In 2004, we did an event together down at Delancey Street in San Francisco. I’ll never forget that moment – that when I was being attacked for my position on same-sex marriage and what we did in San Francisco, she was willing to stand with me in public when no one else was.”

Clinton’s record shows that Newsom is not telling the truth. In 2004, the same time Newsom says Clinton was so pro-gay marriage, Clinton went on the floor of the Senate and said that marriage is “not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman”:
