Obama’s Army Chief-Of-Staff Nominee: Russia, Iran Pose Greatest Threats To U.S.

This morning, President Obama’s Army chief-of-staff nominee, Gen. Mark Milley, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. When asked by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) what he believed to be the greatest threat faced by the United States, Milley said he believed Russia, China, North Korea, ISIS, and Iran to each pose national security threats to the U.S.

This is just the latest example of how out of step Hillary Clinton was as Secretary of State. During her tenure at State in 2012, Clinton said, “I think it’s somewhat dated” to view Russia with as a threat, going so far as to call Russia an ally of the United States:

In 2010, Clinton noted that the goal of the United States is “to help strengthen Russia.”

And despite backless claims that she “stood up” to Putin, on the campaign trail just last week, Putin is mentioned as a punch-line in Clinton’s stump speech, rather than someone treated as a potential threat:

All of this, including Clinton’s repeated claims that the so-called “Russia Reset” was a “brilliant stroke” is at odds with the reality of the situation, which is that America’s top military officials view Russia as our greatest national security threat.

Additionally, Clinton owns the Iran deal, specifically mentioned by Milley, which is upsetting key U.S. allies in the region and putting Iran closer to its goal of achieving nuclear capability.
