Patty Judge Goes Full Braley, Slams Grassley As “Good Ol’ Farmer”
When we introduced Patty Judge as “Iowa’s Next Bruce Braley” we didn’t realize she would take the comparison literally. But lo and behold, Judge just became the latest Democrat to attack Sen. Chuck Grassley’s credentials as an Iowa farmer – the strategy that completely derailed Braley in 2014.
Judge, who was hastily recruited by Washington, D.C. Democrats to run against Grassley, was recorded by an America Rising tracker sarcastically quipping that Grassley “has tried to convince the world” that he’s “a good ol’ farmer” in a speech to College Democrats:
JUDGE: So we’ve got a lot of work to do. So I’m in this race, and I’m going to tell you why I can beat Chuck Grassley, and that is some pretty raw politics. First of all, Chuck Grassley has tried to convince the world, Iowa and Washington, D.C. and the rest of the world, for 20, 30 years, 40 years, that he is a good ol’ farmer. That he comes back to Iowa and farms his farm, and he’s just a good, uh, that’s his persona. We have never run a real farmer against him until me.
Iowa Democrats have expressed skepticism about Judge and disgruntlement at her being forced on them by the Party establishment, but that didn’t stop the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) from officially endorsing her.
D.C. Democrats were big fans of Bruce Braley too, but he’s lower down on the Capitol Hill cocktail party invite lists since completely blowing his race by insulting Iowa farmers.
