Poll: Americans Reject Biden’s Big Government Agenda

A new Gallup poll found that Americans favor lower taxes and fewer government services, a rejection of the Biden-Harris administration’s tax-and-spend agenda. Gallup summarized the results of their poll, writing that, “Americans typically prefer a limited government role to an active one, think there is too much rather than too little regulation of business and believe the government is too powerful.”

Gallup: Americans’ preference for a limited government role is also evident when they are asked to consider the trade-offs between taxes and government services. Given a choice, half of Americans say they prefer fewer government services and lower taxes, while 19% want higher taxes and more services. Twenty-nine percent want taxes and services as they are now.

Despite what Americans want, the Biden-Harris administration continues to push for a massive expansion of government power. Their multi-trillion dollar tax and spending spree grants sweeping new powers to the IRS, including the authority to spy on Americans’ bank accounts, in addition to burdensome new regulations on energy producers that could send prices even higher.

Additionally, economists are now questioning whether the Democrats’ reckless spending plan would have any economic benefit. The Wall Street Journal wrote that the bill “may not boost growth,” and Republicans in Congress warn it will harm working and middle class families by sending inflation skyrocketing even further.

Wall Street Journal: Republicans are tying the supply-chain and inflation issues to the administration’s policy goals, saying the Democrats’ social policy and climate plan currently being debated in Congress would exacerbate the squeeze by injecting potentially trillions more dollars of government funding into an already sizzling economy. They say that they see these issues as powerful political arguments heading into next year’s midterm elections, when Mr. Biden’s party is at risk of losing legislative power. . .

“This is going to be really bad for the American people, and I’m going to tell you that [Democrats] own it,” said Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer, who leads the House Republicans’ campaign arm. “This is making it very difficult for any vulnerable Democrats…they’re not going to be coming back, and this is going to cost them at the polls.”

Bottom Line: Voters, anxious about rising prices and big government power grabs, are rejecting the Biden-Harris administration’s reckless tax-and-spend agenda.
