Polls Predict ‘Devastating Losses’ for Democrats

Joe Biden’s approval rating declined to the lowest level of his presidency and voters say they prefer Republicans retake control of congress, according to an NBC poll. The numbers have prominent Democrats panicking and “extremely discouraged” about potentially “devastating losses” in November.

Axios: Democrats across the political spectrum are panicking about a recent NBC News poll showing President Biden’s approval rating at the lowest levels yet — 40%.

Moderate and progressive Democrats, particularly in the House, are fearful of an electoral tsunami this November. They tell Axios they’re unsure whether the party can repair the damage in time.

Even worse for the president’s party, Biden’s approval rating on Americans’ most important issue — the economy — is just 33 percent. A majority of voters also said Biden has not shown “strong leadership” during the war on Ukraine.

NBC News: And during the nation’s largest inflation spike in 40 years, overwhelming majorities said they believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and disapproved of the president’s handling of the economy. . . Biden’s overall job approval rating had declined to 40 percent, the lowest level of his presidency. The survey also found that Republicans enjoyed a 2-point lead in answering which party should control Congress ahead of November’s midterm elections.

“What this poll says is that President Biden and Democrats are headed for a catastrophic election,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinions Strategy, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates.

Republicans enjoy a 17-point voter enthusiasm edge over Democrats — a “massive advantage” with the midterm elections just months away. Polls from Quinnipiac and Marquette Law School show the GOP making strong gains among key demographic groups and that a plurality of voters blame Joe Biden’s economic policies for surging gas prices.

Bottom Line: The Biden-Harris administration and Democrats in Congress are failing to address voters’ most important issues. It could cost them control of one or both chambers of congress in November.
