Radical Zephyr Teachout Again Rails Against Andrew Cuomo’s Property Tax Cap

During a debate tonight, Zephyr Teachout once again argued against New York’s property tax cap, which she has opposed since her failed run for governor in 2014.

According to the liberal Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office, the tax cap will have saved the typical New York taxpayer $2,100 on property taxes by next year. Furthermore, residents of New York’s 19th district would save thousands:

  • The typical taxpayers in Columbia County will have saved $1,853.
  • The typical taxpayers in Delaware County will have saved $988.
  • The typical taxpayers in Dutchess County will have saved $3,184.
  • The typical taxpayers in Ulster County will have saved $2,749.
  • The typical taxpayers in Sullivan County will have saved $2,381.
  • The typical taxpayers in Greene County will have saved $1,328.
  • The typical taxpayers in Rensselaer County will have saved $1,814.
  • The typical taxpayers in Broome County will have saved $1,162.
  • The typical taxpayers in Otsego County will have saved $627.
  • The typical taxpayers in Schoharie County will have saved $695.
  • The typical taxpayers in Montgomery County will have saved $829.

Zephyr Teachout may not value these tax savings, but the average taxpayers of New York’s 19th district have been benefiting from the property tax cap she wants to undo.
