April 28, 2017This week it was disclosed that former President Barack Obama will be paid $400,000 by a firm to give a single speech. Predictably, this has sparked a serious conflict within the Democratic Party. After all, Hillary Clinton’s campaign was seriously damaged by her many paid speeches.
Since the speech was revealed, many high profile liberal politicians have taken shots at Obama. Most notably, both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have condemned Obama.
The fury over the speech was not limited to Democratic politicians though. Many liberal activists said they were betrayed by the development:
“Former President Obama’s upcoming speech to Wall Streeters is putting $400,000 in his pocket – and putting longtime supporters in a difficult situation. Democratic Party leaders and grass roots activists alike are at a loss to explain how the onetime champion of the 99 percent could cash in with a September address at a health care conference run by investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald.”
