TJ Cox’s Charity Scandal Grows

Freshman Rep. TJ Cox (CA-21) is embroiled in a full out scandal regarding his non-profit, the Central Valley Community Sports Foundation (CVCSF). A new report from Washington Free Beacon details Cox’s issues and the congressman’s reluctance to take responsibility for the problems surrounding the CVCSF.

Serious questions have been raised regarding Cox’s business dealings, taxes, and financial disclosures over the past few weeks by the Fresno Bee. According to the Bee, the CVCSF is delinquent with the California Attorney General for the fourth time since 2016 and was found to have improperly documented spending.

When the non-profit was audited, it was found that Cox may have improperly loaned money from Central Valley NMTC, where Cox was president and COO, to his other business, the CVCSF, and then directly repaid himself.

The CVCSF is also being sued for discriminating against two disabled children for refusing to let them skate at the ice rink it operates.

As a candidate, Cox also failed to disclose several businesses ties as he is required to do, including his ties to three mining companies- one of which was a foreign company. The same report also called into question if Cox had properly disclosed rental income.

Today, the Bee reported that the federal government also placed a tax lien against Cox and his wife in 2017 for nearly $50,000.
