U.S. Chamber Endorses Ayotte; Hassan On Defensive Over Obamacare
Governor Maggie Hassan (D-NH) has always been a strong supporter of Obamacare, and New Hampshire residents have suffered for that. Today because of that past support, Hassan faces significant headwinds that have her on the defensive in her Senate race against Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).
Last week, Community Health Options, a co-op based in Maine, announced that they were pulling out of the New Hampshire market. This will force 11,581 New Hampshire residents to lose their health insurance in 2017. When Community Health Options joined the New Hampshire market though, Governor Hassan was full of such praise that now looks awfully out-of-touch:
“Today’s announcement that two additional carriers plan to offer coverage on New Hampshire’s Health Insurance Marketplace in 2015 is fantastic news that will improve affordability and increase choices for all New Hampshire citizens.”
As the New Hampshire Union Leader pointed out in a new editorial last night, Democrats who, like Maggie Hassan, have been strong Obamacare supporters have left New Hampshire consumers in a tough spot. They now have fewer choices, not the “increased choices” that Hassan promised in 2014:
“New Hampshire residents will have even fewer choices for health insurance next year as Community Health Options announced last week that it is dumping the Granite State to concentrate on its core business in Maine.”
One group that has been on the front lines trying to protect Americans from Obamacare has been the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber will appear with Senator Ayotte today to promote their endorsement of her Senate candidacy. New Hampshire residents are facing premium hikes as high as 60% in 2017, which highlights how important it is to have Senators in the next Congress who recognize Obamacare for the failure it is.
