VIDEO: Secretary Of Veterans Affairs Won’t Apologize For Disneyland Comparison
President Obama’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald is in hot water after his comments yesterday that made light of the long wait times veterans experience at VA hospitals. Secretary McDonald callously claimed his department should not be judged by how long a veteran waits for treatment. McDonald’s shocking comments were met with immediate and widespread condemnation.
Now Secretary McDonald has compounded that problem by refusing to apologize for his outrageous comments. Speaking with MSNBC, McDonald seemed to not appreciate the gravity of his comments, twice refusing to disown them.
Secretary McDonald’s out-of-touch comments are in line with similarly offensive comments from Hillary Clinton on problems within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Back in 2015, Clinton produced a similar uproar when she told Rachel Maddow that the problems facing the Department of Veterans Affairs was not “widespread”:
“Democratic primary front-runner Hillary Clinton says the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) scandal is not as ‘widespread’ of a problem as coverage would indicate. She said the problem is real, but cautioned that ‘it’s not been as widespread as it has been made out to be’ on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” on Friday.”
Clinton’s comments were such a problem for her campaign that her spokesman was forced to back away from them:
“Clinton’s campaign on Tuesday backed away from the candidate’s claim that issues at the VA were not ‘widespread.’ Brian Fallon, Clinton’s press secretary, acknowledged to CNN wait times and other mismanagement of care by the Department of Veterans Affairs were indeed ‘systemic’ and that Clinton will roll out her plan to reform the VA in November.”
Hopefully, Secretary McDonald follows Hillary Clinton’s lead and eventually apologizes for his similarly shameful comments.
