Violent Crime Surges in Democrat-Run Cities

From coast to coast, violent crime is surging in major cities, almost all of which are controlled by Democrats. New York, Chicago, San Francisco and more are all dealing with record surges in violent crime.

In New York City, where shootings have surged more than 60 percent, Mayor Bill de Blasio proposed addressing the surge with “more dialogue” and “more working together.” But he refuses to take meaningful action, such hiring more police officers or fully restoring the $1 billion the city cut from the NYPD’s budget.

Fox News: Gun violence across the five boroughs has spiked more than 40 percent in 2021 — including two broad daylight shootings in Times Square and two kids caught on camera ducking bullets in The Bronx.

Since 2019, shootings have more than doubled by 105.1 percent, the official CompStat figures show.

At the local and national level, Joe Biden and the Democrats are proposing more gun control for law-abiding Americans to end the wave of violent crime. Biden has nominated a radical anti-gun activist to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

New York Post: “Many see putting a committed gun control proponent like David Chipman in charge of ATF is like putting a tobacco executive in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services, or antifa in charge of the Portland Police Department,” said Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican on the committee.

However, the cities where violent crime is surging most already have some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. And, in some of those cities, activists and officials are still calling to defund the police.

Fox News: Many prominent members of the Democratic Party have explicitly called for police departments across the country to be defunded, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who scoffed at a proposal to strip a billion dollars from the New York Police Department’s budget and suggested it wasn’t enough.

“Defunding police means defunding police,” the New York Democrat said in a statement. “It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools.”

Bottom Line: Crime is surging across the country, and Democrats’ proposals for stricter gun laws and defunding the police won’t help.
