Walmart Announcement Exposes, Once Again, Democratic Tax Reform Duplicity

When Republicans were on the verge of passing tax reform, Democrats became so hysterical in their opposition that one prominent Democrat even said that Americans will die “due to tax reform.” Yet, as we move farther away from tax reform’s successful passage, and reports of pay raises and bonuses continue to roll in, Democrats’ knee jerk opposition to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act keeps looking worse.

Instead of the calamity that Democrats promised, tax reform has resulted in dozens of companies handing out bonuses for their employees and raising salaries. Now, Walmart, the largest private employer in the country, has announced both salary hikes and $400 million in bonuses, all because of tax reform:

Walmart‘s workers will soon reap the benefits of the recent tax law changes, as the world’s largest private employer raises its starting wage, creates new benefits and distributes bonuses to eligible workers.”

All told, Walmart’s positive actions will benefit more than one million workers. Walmart’s move, which was preceded by Waste Management’s announcement that its 34,000 employees would receive a $2,000 bonus, is a huge rebuke to Democrats‘ ‘sky is falling’ messaging about tax reform.

Every day that is marked by good news generated by tax reform’s passage, which is most days, makes it clearer to the American people how wrong Democrats were about tax reform. On tax reform, Democrats chose party over country, not something easily forgotten by voters.
